Efrat Mishori (born May 5, 1964) is an Israeli poet, writer, and filmmaker. She is also known for her performance art work. Efrat Mishori has received important awards for her writing, including the Prime Minister's Award in 2002 and the Landau Award in 2018.

About Efrat Mishori

Efrat Mishori was born in Tiberias, a city in Israel. In the 1990s, she worked as a critic, writing about art and literature. She studied literature at Tel Aviv University and earned her PhD in 2006. Her special study looked at how places are shown in poetry.

Her Books and Poems

Efrat Mishori's first book was for children. It was called The Book of Dreams and came out in 1988. She not only wrote the book but also drew the pictures for it.

Her first collection of poems, Poems 1990–1994, was published in 1994. It won an award for new writers and was praised by critics. Since then, Efrat Mishori has published six more collections of poetry.

She has won several awards for her writing:

  • The Hebrew Authors Creativity Award (Prime Minister's Award) in 2002.
  • The Haaretz short story award in 2004.
  • The Shlomo Tanai award in 2017 for her book Married Woman and Single Poems.

Her poems and stories have appeared in many newspapers, magazines, and literary journals.

In 1996, Efrat Mishori created and performed a special show called "I Am Poetry's Model." This show was based on her own poems and was one of the first spoken word performances in Israel. It included Video art and movement, and people called it "groundbreaking" and "pioneering."

Mishori has also taught writing and performance at the School of Visual Arts in Jerusalem. She has led workshops at universities and worked as a Visiting Author for the Ministry of Education. She helps edit poetry books and is on the board of a literature journal.

In 2011, she started a literary group called "Theater of the Traveling Text." Through this group, she holds workshops and meetings with women poets and writers. She is seen as a leader in a new style of poetry in Israel.

Efrat Mishori also helped start "Low Flame 77," a publishing house for women's poetry. She described it as a "laboratory for developing women's poetry."

Filmmaking

In 2014, Efrat Mishori started a film production company called Gypsycam with filmmaker Dana Goldberg. They focus on making experimental and independent cinema. They have made several short films together. In 2018, they released a full-length movie called Death of a Poetess.

In 2018, Efrat Mishori received the Landau Arts Award for her work.

Personal Life

Efrat Mishori has one son. She lives in Tel Aviv.
