Eileen Mary Florence Good (1893–1986) was a pioneering Australian architect and a dedicated teacher. She made history as Australia's first female architecture professor. She was also the very first woman to graduate with an architecture degree from the University of Melbourne.

Eileen Good's Life and Work

Eileen Good started her journey in architecture in 1912. After finishing school, she became an apprentice at a Melbourne architecture company called Purchas and Teague. This was her first step into the world of building design.

Eileen was one of the first women to study architecture at the University of Melbourne. In 1920, she completed her studies. She became the first woman ever to graduate from the university's architecture program. Later that year, she joined the Royal Victorian Australian Institute of Architects. She was the first female member of this important group.

Teaching at the University

In 1924, Eileen Good began working at the University of Melbourne. This made her the first full-time staff member in the university's architecture department. She was also the first female architecture teacher in Australia.

Her first jobs included teaching students and helping to build the university's architecture library. Over time, her role grew. She also taught in the engineering department. Eileen Good became a lecturer in 1946. She continued to teach and inspire students at the University of Melbourne until she retired in 1962.

Honors and Recognition

Eileen Good's important work was recognized in 2004. The government of the Australian Capital Territory honored her. They named a street in Canberra after her. This street, called Eileen Good Street, is in the suburb of Greenway. It helps remember her lasting contributions to architecture and education.
