Eirian Llwyd (1951 – 29 January 2014) was a talented Welsh artist. She was especially known for her printmaking. Eirian was also the wife of Ieuan Wyn Jones, who was a leader of the Welsh political party called Plaid Cymru.

About Eirian Llwyd

Eirian Llwyd was born in 1951 in a place called Prion, near Denbigh in Wales. Before she became a famous artist, she worked as a nurse in Liverpool from 1969 to 1973. After that, she became a midwife at St Asaph Hospital.

In 1974, Eirian married Ieuan Wyn Jones. She strongly supported his work in politics. Ieuan became a Member of Parliament and later a leader of Plaid Cymru. He even served as Deputy First Minister in the Welsh Government.

Supporting Wales and Women

Eirian Llwyd was very proud of her Welsh heritage. She actively campaigned for the Welsh language. In the 1960s and 1970s, she worked with a group called Cymdeithas yr Iaith. This group protested to protect and promote the Welsh language.

Eirian also believed strongly in helping women in politics. In the 1980s, she helped change the rules of the Plaid Cymru party. This made sure that women had important roles on the party's main committees. She also did a lot of charity work. For example, she helped start the Rhyl branch of Women’s Aid in the 1970s and 1980s. This organization helps women who need support.

Her Journey as an Artist

In 2001, Eirian decided to focus on her passion for art. She studied at Cardiff Institute and became an expert in printmaking. Printmaking is a special way of creating art by transferring an image from one surface to another.

After her studies, Eirian's artwork was shown in many exhibitions. Her prints were displayed all over Wales and in other countries too. Her success helped her co-found an art gallery called The Original Print Place. This gallery helped other Welsh artists show their amazing printmaking work.

Later Life and Legacy

Eirian Llwyd passed away in 2014 at the age of 63. She died at Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital in Bangor after a short illness.

In January 2015, a special fund was created in her name. It's called the Eirian Llwyd Memorial Fund. This fund gives money to new Welsh artists who specialize in printmaking. It helps them develop their skills and share their art, continuing Eirian's passion for printmaking.
