El General is a special area in Costa Rica. It is a district within the Pérez Zeledón canton. This canton is part of the San José province. The main village in El General is called General Viejo.

Discovering El General's History
The story of General Viejo began a long time ago, at the end of the 1800s. People started to settle and build homes here.
One of the first people to arrive was Manuel Estrada. He made this land his home in 1870.
Other important founders were Marta Durán Elizondo and her husband, Trino Montero. People knew him as "Don Trino." These families helped create the community we know today as the General Valley.
