Elixer has an interesting past, even though it's a small place today. A long time ago, in 1882, a post office was opened there. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages for many years. However, it closed down in 1906.

The community got its unique name from a nearby natural water source called Elixir Spring. An "elixir" is often thought of as a special, magical drink, and this spring likely had a reputation for having very pure or special water.
