Who Was Elizabeth Manners?
Elizabeth Manners came from a very important family. Her father was the 3rd Earl of Rutland. An Earl is a high-ranking noble title, like a duke or a marquis. When her father passed away, his title of Earl went to his brother. However, Elizabeth inherited a special title called the Barony of Ros. This meant she became the 15th Baroness Ros of Helmsley in her own right. A Baroness is a noblewoman who holds a barony, which is a type of land or estate.
Marriage and Legacy
In January 1589, when Elizabeth was about 14 or 15 years old, she got married. The wedding took place at Newark Castle. She married William Cecil, Lord Burghley. His father was Thomas Cecil, 1st Earl of Exeter. William Cecil later became the 2nd Earl of Exeter, another important noble title.
A Short Life

Elizabeth was buried in the famous Westminster Abbey, a very important church in London where many kings, queens, and famous people are laid to rest. Her son, also named William, inherited her title and became the 16th Baron de Ros.
