Elizabeth Merle Lord (born Elizabeth Merle Crawford in Fort Garry; 1918 – 20 May 1994) was an amazing Manitoba-based architect. An architect is someone who designs buildings. Lord graduated from the University of Manitoba's School of Architecture in 1939. This was a big achievement! In 1944, she made history by becoming the first woman to officially register with the Manitoba Association of Architects. That same year, she also registered with the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.

Elizabeth Lord had several jobs early in her career. She worked for companies like the North American Lumber Company and Crawford Painting. She also worked for the Dominion Government Naval Treasury.

Starting Her Own Business

In the mid-1950s, Elizabeth Lord decided to start her own architectural business. She worked from her home in St. Norbert, Winnipeg. She designed many different types of buildings, including homes, schools, and commercial buildings. Commercial buildings are places like offices or shops.

Helping Her Community

Elizabeth Lord also cared about her community. In the mid-1950s, she was the chairman of the Welfare Council committee on housing. This committee worked to improve housing for people.

Elizabeth Lord retired from her work as an architect in 1976.
