Taking Charge of the Business
Elizabeth Pue became a key figure in Dublin's business world. This happened after her husband, Richard Pue, passed away in 1722. She bravely took over their family businesses. This included their publishing company and their busy coffee house. The coffee house was located in Skinner's Row, Dublin.
Publishing the News
Elizabeth continued to publish her husband's newspaper, Pue's Occurrences. She worked with another printer named Cornelius Carter. They also published other works together.
At one point, there was a disagreement between them. Carter sold a special "eye water" product. Then, Elizabeth started selling a similar product. She even questioned if Carter's product was good or reliable.
Under Elizabeth's leadership, Pue's Occurrences became supportive of the government. She received money from Dublin Castle. This was for advertising against another printer, Harding. She called for Harding's arrest because he published things the government did not like.
Her Later Years
By 1726, Elizabeth Pue stopped working in the family business. Her son, Richard, took over from her. An Elizabeth Pue was buried in Dublin in 1749. However, this might have been her granddaughter, not Elizabeth herself.
