Elizabeth Raum SOM (born January 13, 1945) is a talented Canadian musician and composer. She is known for playing the oboe and creating many different kinds of music. She has written operas, ballets, and even music for films!

About Elizabeth Raum

Elizabeth Raum was born in Berlin, New Hampshire, in 1945. She later became a Canadian citizen in 1985. She loved music from a young age.

Her Musical Journey

Elizabeth studied how to play the oboe at the Eastman School of Music. She finished her studies there in 1966. The oboe is a woodwind instrument, a bit like a clarinet.

Later, in 1985, she earned another degree from the University of Regina. This time, she studied how to compose music, which means writing it.

Playing in Orchestras

Elizabeth played the main oboe for the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra in Halifax, Nova Scotia, for seven years. This is a big job in an orchestra! She then played for the Regina Symphony Orchestra in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Special Awards

In 2004, Elizabeth received an honorary doctorate from Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax. This is a special award that honors her achievements.

In November 2010, she received the Saskatchewan Order of Merit. This award is given to people who have done great things for the province of Saskatchewan. She was honored for her amazing work as a musician and composer.
