Viscount Langford facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Viscount Langford was a special title given to people in Ireland a long time ago. It was created on February 19, 1766, for a woman named Elizabeth Rowley. At the same time, she also received another title, Baroness of Summerhill. These titles were part of the Peerage of Ireland, which was a system of noble ranks in Ireland.

Elizabeth Rowley was married to Hercules Langford Rowley. He was an important person who was part of the Irish Privy Council, a group of advisors to the ruler. After Elizabeth, her son became the second Viscount Langford. He was a politician and represented areas like County Antrim and Downpatrick in the Irish Parliament. The title of Viscount Langford ended in 1796 when the second Viscount passed away.

Later, the family's lands were inherited by Clotworthy Taylor. He was related to the family through Elizabeth Rowley. In 1796, he changed his last name to Rowley. A few years later, in 1800, the Langford title was brought back, and he became Baron Langford. This title still exists today.
