Elizabeth Miriam Squire Sprigge (born June 10, 1900, died December 9, 1974) was an English writer. She wrote many different kinds of books, including novels, life stories (biographies), and books for children. She also translated books from other languages.
Elizabeth Sprigge's Life
Elizabeth Sprigge was the older daughter of Sir Samuel Squire Sprigge. Her father was the editor of a well-known medical journal called The Lancet.
In 1921, Elizabeth married Mark Napier-Clavering. He worked as a business agent for a company called Debenhams. They had two daughters named Julyan and Ruth. Elizabeth and Mark later divorced in 1945.
From her late twenties until the end of her life, Elizabeth Sprigge published many books. She became well-known for her writing.

Elizabeth Sprigge is perhaps best remembered for a book she wrote in 1973. This book was a biography, or life story, of her long-time friend, the author Ivy Compton-Burnett.
