Elizabeth Winthrop (born September 14, 1948) is a well-known American writer. She has written over sixty books, mostly for children! You might know her best for her popular middle-grade novels, The Castle in the Attic and its sequel, The Battle for the Castle. These books are loved by many and have even won awards.

Elizabeth Winthrop Alsop was born in Washington, D.C. Her father, Stewart Alsop, was a newspaper writer who wrote about politics. Her mother, Patricia Alsop, worked in medical research for the American Red Cross. Elizabeth also has a brother named Stewart Alsop Jr.
Elizabeth Winthrop comes from a family with interesting connections! Her great-aunt, Corinne Douglas Robinson, was a first cousin to Eleanor Roosevelt, who was the First Lady of the United States. Corinne was also the niece of Theodore Roosevelt, who was a U.S. President.
Elizabeth went to Sarah Lawrence College for her education. She later married Robert Jason Bosseau, who directs a drama program at a school in New York.
