Elizabeth Winthrop Alsop was born in Washington, D.C. Her father, Stewart Alsop, was a newspaper writer who wrote about politics. Her mother, Patricia Alsop, worked in medical research for the American Red Cross. Elizabeth also has a brother named Stewart Alsop Jr.

Elizabeth Winthrop comes from a family with interesting connections! Her great-aunt, Corinne Douglas Robinson, was a first cousin to Eleanor Roosevelt, who was the First Lady of the United States. Corinne was also the niece of Theodore Roosevelt, who was a U.S. President.

Elizabeth went to Sarah Lawrence College for her education. She later married Robert Jason Bosseau, who directs a drama program at a school in New York.
