The Elks Lodge building in Lima, Ohio is a really old and important place. It used to be the meeting spot for a group called the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. This specific lodge was known as B.P.O. E. #54. It was the 54th Elks lodge ever started, and it's actually the biggest one in the entire state of Ohio! The building was first built in 1909. Today, it's no longer an Elks Lodge. Since 2019, the Tabernacle Baptist Church has used this historic building.

A Historic Building in Lima

The Elks Lodge building is located at 138 West North Street in Lima. It was designed by architects Hulsken & McLaughlin. The building was finished in 1909. Its style is called "Prairie School" architecture. This style often features strong horizontal lines and open spaces.

In the early 1900s, Lima was a very busy and rich city. This was because of its oil and railroad industries. Many important buildings were constructed during this time. The Elks Lodge was one of them. It showed how successful Lima was back then.

Why is it Special?

The former Elks Lodge building is considered very important. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 7, 1982. This is a special list of places in the United States that are worth saving. They are important because of their history or unique design.

The Elks Lodge was one of seventeen buildings in Lima added to this list at the same time. This group of buildings was called the "Lima Multiple Resource Area." The Elks Lodge was one of the newer buildings on this list. Its inclusion shows its value to Lima's history and architecture.
