Elliot Reed (born 1992) is an American dancer and performance artist. They create art using dance, video, performance, and sculptures. Their work often explores how our bodies, time, and different systems connect. Reed's art has been shown around the world at places like MoMA PS1 in New York, Kunsthaus Glarus in Switzerland, and The Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Reed was a special scholar in dance in 2019 and an Artist in Residence at The Studio Museum in Harlem from 2019 to 2020. They also received an award for new artists in 2019.

Early Life and Education
Elliot Reed was born in 1992.
Reed studied at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where they earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2011. Later, they completed a Master of Arts degree in Choreography (the art of creating dances) from the Institut Chorégraphique International - CCN Montpellier in 2023.
Artistic Projects and Performances
Since 2014, Elliot Reed has led Elliot Reed Laboratories. This is a special creative office that exists within the artist's own mind and body. Elliot Reed Laboratories is officially registered and licensed.
Notable Performances
In 2017, Reed performed a piece called COMEDY at the Nous Tous Community Gallery in Los Angeles.
In 2018, Reed presented several performances:
- America's Procession: This was a group performance that honored Reed's great-grandmother.
- 500 Questions: For this performance, Reed and other artists walked around the Getty Museum. They wore uniforms and only repeated question words.
- Two Business Women Trek To An Undisclosed Location: In this work, Reed directed two businesswomen to walk across the Union Station Los Angeles Metro system.
During their time as an artist in residence at The Studio Museum, Reed created a project that included special movements and sounds they performed themselves.
Collaborations and Exhibitions
Elliot Reed often works with another performance artist named Ron Athey. In 2021, they worked together at Participant Inc. They recreated a "human printing press" for an audience who could only watch from outside the gallery windows. For another piece at MoMA PS1, Reed wore a special cloak and recited a text about a historical event.
Reed also contributed to the FIVE exhibition, which was put together by artist Nina Chanel Abney. For this, Reed showed a video called Quarantine Ballet (2020). This video was made from five recordings taken with a smartphone.
Reed also wrote an essay for The Dance Review in Winter 2020, published by MIT Press. The essay was about "Performance Art Is…"
In 2021, Reed's work was part of an exhibition called This Longing Vessel: Studio Museum Artists in Residence 2019–20 at MoMA PS1. They exhibited alongside artists E. Jane and Naudline Pierre. Their installation included sculptures, painted walls, and a video that explored complex themes. Later that year, Reed had a show called Three Works at OCDChinatown in New York. This show explored the meaning of "Drawing." In March 2021, Reed performed Enter the Facilitatrix at Monmouth University.
Late in 2021, Reed's art was shown in Switzerland for the first time at Kunsthaus Glarus. The exhibition, called Rhythm, featured various video works, a special green room with neon lights, motorbikes, speakers, and a wall with knives partly installed. Reed's work was shown alongside artists Bri Williams and Puppies Puppies. Reed also participated in a discussion about their art, how technology, teamwork, and sculpture connect.
