How Ellis Prairie Got Its Name
The community of Ellis Prairie was named after a person! His name was Washington Asa Ellis. He was one of the first people to settle in this area, choosing a nearby prairie to make his home. Over time, the community that grew there took his name.
The Post Office Story
Ellis Prairie once had its very own post office. It was first opened in 1879. For exactly 100 years, this post office served the community, helping people send and receive letters and packages. It finally closed its doors in 1979.
