Elmrock is found in the eastern part of Kentucky. It is about 8.4 miles (13.5 kilometers) north-northwest of a town called Hindman. You can find Elmrock right along Kentucky Route 1098.
The Story Behind Elmrock's Name
The name "Elmrock" has a simple and interesting origin. The community was named after two natural features. There was a very large elm tree and a big rock in the area. These landmarks gave the community its unique name.
Elmrock's Post Office History
For many years, Elmrock had its own post office. This post office helped people send and receive mail. It opened on August 9, 1911. The post office served the community for a long time. However, it eventually closed on September 2, 1989.
