Elrama is a small community in Washington County, Pennsylvania. It is a special kind of place called a "census-designated place." This means it's an area that the government counts as a separate community for population surveys. Even though it's counted separately, it is still part of a larger area called Union Township.
Elrama is located in the eastern tip of Union Township. It sits right next to the Monongahela River. You can find it along Pennsylvania Route 837. As of the 2020 census, about 285 people lived in Elrama.
Elrama's History
Elrama once had a large power plant. This plant used coal to make electricity. It was built in the 1950s by a company called Duquesne Light.
In 2012, the Elrama coal-fired power plant was closed down. After it closed, the plant was taken apart. The final steps of its demolition were finished in 2023.
