Her Books
Elys Dolan has written and illustrated many popular books. Her first book, Weasles, came out in 2013. People loved it because it was so funny and appealed to kids of many different ages. It was even nominated for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize in 2013.
Doughnut of Doom
Her book Doughnut of Doom (2016) had a bit of a problem in 2018. The story included a giant doughnut villain who had an allergic reaction. Some people were worried about how this part of the story handled food allergies.
Because of these concerns, the publisher, Nosy Crow, decided to take back and destroy all copies of the book. Elys Dolan then changed the story and some of the drawings to remove anything about allergies. A new, revised version of the book was published in 2019.
Award-Winning Stories
Mr Bunny's Chocolate Factory won the Best Laugh Out Loud Picture Book award at the 2018 LOLLIES. This book has been described as having "political" ideas, meaning it touches on themes about how groups of people work together, like in a factory. It's also seen as "pro-union," which means it supports groups of workers who join together to improve their jobs.
Another book, How the Borks Became (2019), was illustrated by Elys Dolan and written by Jonathan Emmett. This book won the Best Early Years Book in the STEAM Children's Book Prize. It was recognized for helping young children learn about evolution, which is how living things change and develop over very long periods of time.
