Emil Hübner was born in Düsseldorf, Germany. His father, Julius Hübner, was a famous painter of historical scenes.
Emil went to university in Berlin and Bonn. He studied classical subjects, which means he learned about ancient Greece and Rome.
Travels and Research
After his studies, Hübner traveled a lot. He visited many places to research old things and ancient writings. This kind of study is called antiquarian research (studying old objects) and epigraphy (studying inscriptions, which are writings carved into stone or metal).
His travels led to several important books. These books collected and explained ancient inscriptions he found.
Discoveries in Spain
Hübner spent time in Spain, where he found many Latin and Christian inscriptions. He published these in books like:
