Emil's Big Adventure in Berlin
This movie follows ten-year-old Emil Tischbein on a special trip. He travels by bus from his hometown, Neustadt, to the big city of Berlin. Emil carries an important envelope. Inside are 400 marks, money his mother asked him to deliver to his grandmother.
During the bus ride, Emil falls asleep. When he wakes up, the money is gone! He is sure the thief is Grundeis, a suspicious man who sat next to him. Emil bravely follows Grundeis to a cafe in Berlin. He tries to get help from a policeman. However, Grundeis manages to escape. He runs off to meet his criminal friend, The Baron.
The Young Detectives Take Over
Emil doesn't give up. He soon gets help from a group of smart child "detectives." Their leader is a street-smart boy named Gustav. Together, they track down Grundeis. They secretly listen in as Grundeis, The Baron, and another helper named Müller plan a big crime. They want to rob a large Berlin bank! Their plan is to dig a tunnel right into the bank's vault.
Emil is caught by the criminals. He is forced to help with their sneaky plan. After the bank vault is blown open, Grundeis gets a surprise. The Baron and Müller trick him! They leave Grundeis and Emil behind in the tunnel. They even light a dynamite fuse to blow them up.
Catching the Crooks
Luckily, Gustav arrives just in time to save Emil and Grundeis. The child detectives quickly chase after the thieves. They alert more children in the neighborhood. Soon, a huge group of kids is chasing the criminals! The Baron and Müller are surrounded by the children. The police arrive and arrest the bad guys.
Emil receives a reward for his bravery. He decides to share the money with all the other children who helped him. It was a true team effort!
