Gertrúd Emilia Eberle (born on March 4, 1964) is a retired gymnast from Romania. She is also known as Trudi Kollar. Emilia has a background that includes both German and Hungarian heritage.

Emilia Eberle's Gymnastics Journey

Starting Out in Gymnastics

Emilia Eberle began her gymnastics training at the age of seven. Her mother encouraged her to join the sport. She first learned from coaches Judita Varkony and Pavel Rosenfeld. Later, she was coached by the famous Béla Károlyi and Márta Károlyi. These coaches later moved from Romania to the United States in 1981.

Emilia joined the Romanian national gymnastics team in 1976. She became a big star in Romanian gymnastics. Many people saw her as the next great gymnast after Nadia Comăneci. Even though she often competed alongside Nadia, Emilia still made her own mark. She won 13 individual medals in major competitions. These included events at the European, World, and Olympic levels.

Big Wins and Team Success

One of Emilia's most impressive achievements was winning the floor exercise at the 1979 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She beat other top gymnasts like Nelli Kim and Maxi Gnauck. At the 1980 Olympics, she earned a silver medal on the uneven bars. Maxi Gnauck just barely won gold over her in that event.

Emilia was also part of the Romanian team that won a gold medal at the 1979 World Championships. During the competition, she had a fall on the balance beam. However, her other scores were very strong. This helped the Romanian team stay in the running for gold against the Soviet team. Nadia Comăneci, who was recovering from an injury, competed on the beam. Her high score of 9.95 helped the Romanians win the gold medal. This was a rare victory for Romania over the strong Soviet team.

Uneven Bars Specialist

Emilia was a strong all-around gymnast. She won silver medals in the all-around at the 1979 World Cup and European Championships. But she was especially known for her amazing routines on the uneven bars. Her routines often changed a lot from year to year. She would even change them between different competitions. She was known for her quick and unusual ways of moving from one bar to the other.

Life After Gymnastics

Moving and Coaching

Emilia Eberle retired from gymnastics in 1983. Like her former coaches, the Károlyis, and Nadia Comăneci, Emilia later left Romania. She moved to Hungary in 1989. Then, in 1991, she moved to the United States.

Today, Emilia is married and has a son named Roland, who was born in 1999. She coaches gymnastics in California. She works with Géza Poszár, another gymnastics coach and choreographer from Romania. Emilia now uses the name Trudi Kollar, combining her first name with her married last name.
