Lady Emily Charlotte Mary Ponsonby (1817–1877) was a writer from the Victorian era. She wrote many novels that were popular during her time.

About Lady Emily's Life

Lady Emily Charlotte Mary Ponsonby was born in London in 1817. Her father was John Ponsonby, 4th Earl of Bessborough. He held an important government job called the Home Secretary for a short time in 1834. This role is like being in charge of keeping the country safe and orderly. Emily's aunt was Lady Caroline Lamb, whose husband later became the Prime Minister.

Emily's father had very messy handwriting. This problem got worse after he had a riding accident. Since Emily was his oldest unmarried daughter, she helped him by working as his secretary. This meant she wrote things down for him.

Lady Emily wrote many novels about the lives of people in the upper classes. These stories were often about love and relationships. She published her books without using her real name. She passed away on February 3, 1877, at her home in London.
