Emmy Lynn was born as Emily Leigh in Barcelona, Spain, in 1889. Her father was English and worked at the British Consulate. Her mother was half-Spanish and half-German. When Emmy was just one year old, her family moved to Paris, France.

She grew up to become a well-known actress. Emmy Lynn was married a few times during her life. Her husbands included actor Henry Roussel, Charles Peignot, and Jean-Jacques Gautier, who was a theatre critic and writer.
