Enrique Irazoqui facts for kids
Enrique Irazoqui (born July 5, 1944 – died September 16, 2020) was a Spanish person who was many things! He was a literature teacher, an expert in computer chess, and an actor.
He is most famous for playing Jesus Christ in the 1964 movie The Gospel According to St. Matthew. This film was directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini. Enrique was only 19 years old when he played this important main role. After this, he acted in only a few more movies.
Enrique Irazoqui was born in Barcelona, Spain. His father was Spanish, and his mother was Italian and Jewish. In 2011, he was given an award called "Honorary Citizenship" by the city of Matera, Italy. This was a special way to thank him.
In 2002, Enrique was an important person in a big chess match. He was the "arbiter," which means he was like a referee. The match was called Brains in Bahrain. It was between the world chess champion, Vladimir Kramnik, and a computer program named Deep Fritz. The game ended in a tie!
