Enterprise, Preble County, Ohio facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Enterprise is a small place in Preble County, Ohio, in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

The History of Enterprise

People first started to settle and live in Enterprise way back in 1836. This was when the first homes and buildings began to appear. Later, in 1846, a post office was opened in Enterprise. Post offices were very important back then because they were the main way people sent and received letters and packages. This post office stayed open for many years, until 1864.

Even though people had been living there for a while, Enterprise wasn't officially mapped out until 1880. When a place is "platted," it means that its streets, blocks, and individual land lots are drawn on a map. This helps organize how the community grows and where new buildings can be placed.
