Epifanio Mejía Quijano (1838–1913) was a famous Colombian poet and politician. He wrote over 134 poems during his lifetime. Born in Yarumal, Antioquia, in 1838, he later passed away in Medellín in 1913. He is best known for his poem, "The song of Antioquia," which became the official Anthem of Antioquia.

Life of Epifanio Mejía

Epifanio Mejía was the son of Ramon Mejia Vallejo and Maria Luisa Quijano. After his father passed away, he moved to Medellín. He hoped to find better opportunities there. It was in Medellín that he began his journey as a poet.

Epifanio Mejía became one of the most important poets from Antioquia in the 19th century. He was often mentioned alongside other great writers like Gregorio Gutiérrez González. His work helped shape the literature of the region.

Literary Contributions and Later Years

Between 1868 and 1869, Epifanio Mejía worked with the literary magazine El Oasis. This magazine was led by Isidoro Isaza. At the age of 31, he started to experience health challenges and received care in Medellín. He continued to be a significant figure in Colombian poetry until his death in 1913.
