Erick Swen Pohlhammer Boccardo (born February 5, 1955 – died May 22, 2023) was a famous Chilean poet. He was part of the "Generation of the 80s" poets. Erick described himself as a "media figure," a traveler, and someone who loved to read a lot. He was also interested in Zen Buddhism and knew a lot about both academic and popular culture.

Early Life and Education
Erick Pohlhammer went to The Grange School and finished in 1972. After that, he studied at the Catholic University. There, he became a professor of Castilian, which is another name for Spanish. He also started studying aesthetics, which is about beauty and art. However, he decided to go to the United States. In the U.S., he earned a special degree in education from the University of Miami.
A Passion for Sports
Erick Pohlhammer loved football (soccer). His uncle was the famous football player "Sapo" Livingstone. In his younger days, Erick played for his university's sports club, Club Deportivo Universidad Católica. He was even captain for the under-15, under-16, and under-17 teams. He played alongside players like Orlando Ramírez.
Besides football, Erick also practiced amateur boxing when he was young. He won many fights, with 32 of his 37 victories coming by knockout! He became a champion in his neighborhood and later among the English schools in Santiago. He also enjoyed playing rugby and swimming.
His Writing Journey
Erick Pohlhammer published his first book in 1979. But he actually fell in love with writing much earlier, when he was 19 years old. His first big award was the Pablo Neruda Award in 1993. This was a very important recognition for his poetry. Later, he received other awards. In 2008, he won the Santiago Municipal Literature Award for his poetry book called Vírgenes de Chile.
In 2015, Erick had his first art show. It was called Pic-poemas and featured digital prints of his work.
Other Talents and Interests
Erick Pohlhammer taught literature at different universities. He also led writing workshops. He appeared on many television shows as a panelist and writer. He was even the president of the Union of Chilean Poets. He also served as the "minister of happiness" for a cultural and political group. Erick was very interested in breathing techniques. He considered Prem Rawat one of his teachers in this area.
Erick Pohlhammer passed away on May 22, 2023, at the age of 68. He died due to problems from a stroke.
