Erika Stang (born September 1, 1861 – died October 28, 1898) was a talented Norwegian composer and pianist. She created beautiful music and taught others how to play.

Early Life and Music Studies

Erika Stang was born in a town called Honefoss, Norway. Her parents were Fredrikke Dorothea Kamstrup and Johan Stang. From a young age, Erika showed a strong interest in music.

She traveled to Berlin, Germany, to study music. There, she learned from famous teachers like Agathe Backer Grøndahl, who was also a well-known Norwegian composer and pianist, and Hans Barth. These studies helped Erika become a skilled musician.

A Career in Music

After her studies, Erika Stang returned to Norway. She worked as a music teacher in Kristiania (which is now called Oslo) during the 1880s and 1890s. She shared her musical knowledge with many students.

Erika was also a gifted pianist and often performed for audiences. She even exchanged letters with another pianist, Andreas Martin Knutzen. These letters, written between 1887 and 1889, show how musicians communicated and shared ideas in those times.

Erika Stang's Compositions

Erika Stang wrote many pieces of music during her life. Her music was published by a company called Carl Warmuth. She composed works for both piano and voice.
