History of Erin Springs

The town of Erin Springs started in 1871. A man named Frank Murray built his home here. He was an Irish immigrant who came from Londonderry. Frank Murray became a very successful rancher. He owned a lot of land, about 20,000 acres. He also had many cattle, around 26,000 of them!

At first, the community was called Elm Springs. This name came from a big elm tree. The tree grew right behind the local stage depot. Later, the town's name was changed to Erin Springs. This was done to honor Frank Murray's sister, Erin Westland.
