Erode district is a cool place in the western part of Tamil Nadu, a state in India. It's part of a region called Kongu Nadu. Erode city is the main town and the headquarters of the district. This district was created on August 31, 1979.

How Erode District Was Formed

Before it became its own district, Erode was part of a bigger area called Coimbatore district. On September 17, 1979, it split off to become a new district. It was first known as Periyar District. Later, in 1996, its name was changed to Erode district, which is what we call it today.

Erode district covers a large area of about 5,692 square kilometers. For a while, it was the biggest district in Tamil Nadu! The official language spoken here is Tamil.

How Erode District is Managed

The district is divided into two main parts for easier management: Erode and Gobichettipalayam. These parts are further split into 6 smaller areas called taluks. This helps the local government manage everything smoothly.
