The Eureka Theater is a cool old movie theater in Eureka, California. It was built in 1939 and has a special design style called Art Moderne. When it first opened, it was considered super modern! It showed that people in Eureka and Humboldt County, California were feeling hopeful after a tough time called the Great Depression. The theater stopped showing regular movies on August 1, 1996. Today, it's being fixed up and you can rent it for shows or events.

What the Eureka Theater Looks Like
The Eureka Theater has a really interesting look. It's made of smooth, light-colored walls and has a tall sign that says "EUREKA" reaching up about 50 feet (15 meters).
Outside the Theater
Right at the front, there's a main entrance for the lobby. On either side, there are spaces for shops. A cool, rounded canopy sticks out over the entrance. Above this, a V-shaped sign holds up the tall "EUREKA" sign. This tall sign looks like one big piece, but it's actually a frame covered in the same smooth material as the building. On the second floor, there are smaller sections with windows. These used to be the owner's apartment.
Inside the Lobby
When you step inside, you enter a small, curved area. The floor has a cool mosaic tile pattern. The lower parts of the walls are covered in maroon tiles with shiny chrome stripes. A big, fancy light hangs over the ticket booth. The ticket booth also has tiles that match the walls. There's a blue glass window above the ticket counter that lights up when the theater is open.
The main entrance doors still have their original handles, made of brass and a type of plastic called Bakelite. The ceiling in this area has lots of cool designs. This narrow hallway leads you to the main lobby.
The Grand Lobby
The grand lobby is shaped like an oval. It has a unique ceiling with steps and curves. A colorful light fixture hangs in the middle. Columns near the entrance have special glass panels that can also light up. These details make the theater feel very stylish and modern, even today!
A Historic Place
The Eureka Theater is so special that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 7, 2010. This means it's recognized as an important historical building that should be protected.
