Evelin Winifred Aston (who later became Evelin Leigh) was a talented British artist. She was born on January 22, 1891, and lived until 1975. Evelin was most famous for her amazing sculptures. But she also loved to paint and try out many different art styles!
Evelin Aston's Life Story
Evelin Aston was born in Birmingham, England. She was one of four children. Her father was a housebuilder. Evelin had a private education when she was young. After that, she went to the Birmingham School of Art. There, she studied arts and crafts. Some of her teachers were famous artists like Bernard Fleetwood-Walker and William Bloyne.
Teaching and Creating Art
In the 1920s, Evelin taught art. She taught modelling to blind children in Birmingham. At the same time, she kept working on her own art. She showed her sculptures and paintings in many important art shows.
Exhibitions and Recognition
Evelin's art was shown at the Paris Salon. This was a very famous art show in Paris, France. She also showed her work with the Royal Scottish Academy in 1934. Throughout the 1930s, her art was displayed by the Society of Women Artists. She also exhibited with the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. Evelin was a regular artist at the Birmingham Art Circle. She was even chosen as a member there.
Her sculpture called The Adoration was shown at the Paris Salon. This artwork was so special that many French art magazines wrote about it! Evelin kept making art into the 1950s. She lived in Birmingham her whole life. Most of that time, she lived in the Erdington area of the city.
