Everard de Ros was an important lord who lived a long time ago, from about 1145 to 1183. He was known as the lord of Hamlake, which is now called Helmsley in England.

Who Was Everard de Ros?

Everard de Ros was born around 1145. His parents were Robert de Ros and Sybil de Valoines. When he was young, he was looked after by a guardian named Ranulph de Granville. This was common for noble children whose parents might have died or were unable to care for them.

Everard's Wealth and Family

Everard de Ros was a very rich man. In 1176, he paid a huge amount of money, about 526 pounds, to take control of his family's lands. This was a massive sum back then! He paid other large amounts later too, showing just how wealthy he was.

Around 1170 or 1171, Everard de Ros married a woman named Rose Trusbut. They had two sons together. Their oldest son was named Robert de Ros. Robert later became famous because he was one of the "sureties" for the Magna Carta. This means he was one of the powerful barons who promised that King John would follow the rules of the Magna Carta, a very important document in English history.

After his marriage, Everard de Ros also adopted the family symbol, or "arms," of his wife's family, the Trussebuts of Warter. This showed a strong connection to her noble family.

When Did Everard de Ros Die?

Everard de Ros passed away around 1183. He and his wife, Rose, were buried in the church at Hunmanby. They were known for being very generous people. They gave a lot of money and support to different religious places like churches and monasteries during their lives.
