Ewa Damek facts for kids
Ewa Damek is a Polish mathematician. She was born on August 9, 1958. She studies math at the University of Wrocław in Poland. Her work includes topics like how waves and signals behave (called harmonic analysis). She also studies how things grow and spread, like populations (called branching processes). Another area she researches is special shapes in math called Siegel domains.

Her Journey in Mathematics
Studying and Teaching
Ewa Damek is a professor of mathematics. She teaches at the University of Wrocław. She even led the math department there for five years. This was from 2002 to 2007.
She started studying math at the University of Wrocław in 1977. She worked very hard and earned her PhD in 1987. Her teacher was a famous mathematician named Andrzej Hulanicki. After her studies, she worked for a while in the United States. She taught at the University of Georgia. Later, she came back to Wrocław. She became a full professor there in 2000.
Important Discoveries
Damek–Ricci Spaces
In 1992, Ewa Damek made a big discovery with another mathematician, Fulvio Ricci. They found special mathematical spaces. These spaces helped to show that an old idea, called the Lichnerowicz conjecture, was not always true. This idea was about "harmonic Riemannian manifolds," which are special kinds of curved spaces.
The spaces they found were not "symmetric." This means they looked different from different angles. These special spaces have at least seven dimensions. They are now known as Damek–Ricci spaces.
Writing a Book
Ewa Damek also helped write an important book. The book is called Stochastic Models with Power Law Tails: The Equation . She wrote it with D. Buraczewski and T. Mikosch. It was published in 2016. This book helps explain how certain random events behave. It looks at things that can have very big or very small results.
Awards and Honors
In 2011, Ewa Damek received a special honor. She was named a knight of the Order of Polonia Restituta. This is one of Poland's highest awards. It is given to people who have done great things for their country.
