Faith Alexis Ford (born September 14, 1964) is an American actress. She is well-known for her roles in popular TV shows. She played Corky Sherwood on the CBS sitcom Murphy Brown. For this role, she was nominated for five Primetime Emmy Awards. She also starred as Hope Shanowski on the ABC sitcom Hope & Faith.
Early life
Faith Alexis Ford was born in Alexandria, Louisiana. Her mother, Patricia Walker, was a schoolteacher, and her father, Charles Ford, was an insurance agent. Faith grew up in Pineville. She started acting while she was a student at Pineville High School. When she was 17, she moved to Manhattan. There, she began working as a model and appearing in commercials.
Career
In 1983, Faith Ford got her first TV role on ABC's One Life to Live. Her first big role was playing Julia Shearer on the NBC soap opera Another World. After this, Ford moved to Hollywood. She then got a regular role on the sitcom The Popcorn Kid, which was short-lived.
She also appeared in five episodes of thirtysomething. She played a homeless woman on Family Ties before joining the cast of Murphy Brown. After Murphy Brown ran for ten years, Faith Ford explored other TV projects. In 1998, she was an executive producer for her own sitcom, Maggie Winters. From 1999 to 2001, Ford also appeared on The Norm Show.
Faith Ford starred in Hope & Faith for three years with Kelly Ripa. She played Hope Fairfield-Shanowski, a homemaker who lives a quiet life. Her life gets complicated when her sister, a famous Hollywood actress, moves in with her.
In 2004, Faith Ford published her own cookbook, Cooking with Faith. She shared that her mother and grandmothers taught her how to cook. In 2005, she acted in the Disney movie The Pacifier. In this film, she played the mother of a family whose husband had passed away. In 2007, she appeared in the sitcom Carpoolers. In 2011, Ford was in the Disney teen film Prom. She played Kitty Prescott, the mother of the main character, Nova Prescott.
On February 26, 2018, it was announced that Faith Ford would return for a new season of Murphy Brown. She appeared in all 13 episodes of the revival.
Personal life
Faith Ford was married to Robert Nottingham from 1989 to 1996. Since 1998, she has been married to writer and director Campion Murphy. Faith and Campion worked together to produce a short film called Citation of Merit. This film was shown at many film festivals across the United States.
Faith has a health condition called Graves' disease. Her sister, Devon O'Day, also works in entertainment, mainly in radio.
