How FareStart Began
FareStart started in 1988. It was first called Common Meals. David Lee created it to provide food for homeless shelters. In 1992, it became a non-profit organization.
A Special Award
In 2011, FareStart won a big award. It received the "Humanitarian of the Year" award. This award came from the James Beard Foundation. It showed how much good FareStart was doing.
Helping During Tough Times
In March 2020, the world faced a big challenge. Many places had to close down. FareStart changed its work to help people in need. They started making meals for those who were hungry. Food was given by restaurants and other groups.
FareStart made sure their staff stayed safe. They prepared meals for 70 local organizations. By May 2023, they had made 5.9 million meals. They also helped almost 600 people join their training programs. FareStart continues to make a big difference in its community.
