The Faultless Pajama Company began as E. Rosenfeld and Company. Later, it became Rosenfeld & Steppacher Company. They were a big employer in Baltimore's clothing industry. Their main products were pajamas and other sleepwear.
This company was the first to use elastic in the waist of pajama pants. Before that, pajamas often used drawstrings or belts. Using elastic made pajamas much more comfortable and easy to wear.
The Famous Song
The company was also known for a popular song called "My Faultless Pajama Girl." This song was a fox-trot, a type of dance music. Louis Fisher composed it in 1917. Sheet music for the song was published by Jerome H Remick & Co.
In the 1940s, another clothing company bought the Faultless Pajama Company. This company was called Wilson Brothers. Wilson Brothers kept making pajamas under the Faultless Pajama name. They also sold their own line of clothing called Wilson Wear.
Where Was the Factory?
The Faultless Pajama Company factory was in downtown Baltimore. It was located at the corner of South Paca and Lombard Streets. This area is now known as the Westside.
The Building Today
The building where the company was located is very old and important. It is part of the Loft Historic District North. In 1985, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is known as the Rosenfeld Building.
In the 1980s, the building was changed into apartments. These apartments are called the Inner Harbor Loft Apartments. In 2005, the University of Maryland Medical Center bought the building. Today, it is used for different purposes. It provides housing for university students and families of long-term patients. It also has spaces for businesses to rent.
