Early Life and Education
Fazila Samadova grew up in Shamakhi, Azerbaijan. In 1946, she finished high school in Baku with top honors. She then joined the Chemical Technology program at the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute.
After graduating in 1951, she became a chemical engineer. She continued her studies as a postgraduate student. From 1951 to 1955, she studied at the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas.
Her Scientific Career
Fazila Samadova began her scientific work in the 1950s. She started at the Gubkin Russian State University and the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute. Later, she continued her research at the Institute of Petroleum Industry.
In 1956, she earned her degree as a Candidate of Technical Sciences. Her research focused on "The effect of the chemical composition of oils on their performance properties." This means she studied how the makeup of oils affects how well they perform.
Research on Oils
From 1960 to 1981, Samadova worked as a senior researcher. She was in the "Chemistry and Technology of Oils" laboratory. This lab was part of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Petrochemical Processes.
Her research during this time helped her earn her doctorate. She studied how to get different types of oils from Baku paraffin oils. She also looked at new, cost-effective ways to produce them in Azerbaijan.
Leading a Laboratory
In 1982, Fazila Samadova became the head of the "Research of oils and technology of oils" laboratory. From 1986, she led the Petroleum Research and Oil Technology Laboratory.
Her hard work led to many honors. In 1987, she became a Professor of Oil and Gas Technology. She was named an Honored Scientist of Azerbaijan in 1991. She also became a full member of the New York Academy of Sciences. In 2001, she became a corresponding member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS).
Her Published Works
Fazila Samadova's research is found in over 530 scientific papers. She also wrote 24 books (called monographs) and one publicist book. She held 64 patents for her inventions. One of her books was dedicated to her brother, Fuad Samedov. He was an explorer who discovered Oil Rocks.
She was often chosen to be a member of important scientific groups. These groups included Academic Councils and Specialized Scientific Commissions. She also helped edit two science journals. Under her guidance, 4 scientists earned their doctorates and 20 earned their philosophy doctorates.
