How It All Began

The Felton Institute started in 1889. It was first known as the Associated Charities of San Francisco. Imagine, that's over 130 years ago!

New Homes and New Names

In 1928, the organization moved into a special new building. This building was designed by a famous architect named Bernard Maybeck. It was located at 1010 Gough Street.

In 1938, the group changed its name to the Family Service Agency. They wanted to show that they were more than just a "charity." They were a service for families.

Then, in 2006, the name changed again to the Felton Institute. This new name honored a very important person named Katharine Felton. She had contributed a lot to the organization.

Where It Is Today

As of 2020, the Felton Institute is located at 1500 Franklin Street. It continues its important work of helping families and individuals in San Francisco.
