Who is Fermín Pardo Pardo?

Fermín Pardo Pardo is a very important person in the world of Spanish folklore. He has spent his life collecting and studying old songs and music. These songs tell us a lot about the history and culture of the people who created them. His work helps to keep these traditions alive for future generations.

Starting His Research Journey

Fermín Pardo was born in a place called Hortunas, which is near Requena. In 1974, he joined a special group of researchers. Their goal was to find and record folk songs all over the Province of Valencia. They wanted to make sure these songs were not forgotten.

In 1976, their project grew even bigger. With help from an organization called Institució Alfons el Magnànim (which supports culture), they finished collecting songs. They gathered music from the entire Land of Valencia. This was a huge effort to save traditional music.

Throughout his life, Fermín Pardo has collected a massive amount of music. He has recorded about 11,700 different musical pieces! These recordings are stored on more than 300 old-fashioned cassette tapes.

Since 2008, this incredible collection has been kept safe. It is stored in the main Archive in Requena. This means that students, researchers, and anyone interested can learn from his valuable work. His collection is a treasure trove of traditional Spanish music.
