Fernando de Aragón, 1st Duke of Montalto facts for kids
Fernando de Aragón y Guardato, 1st Duke of Montalto (born before 1494 – died 1542) was an important figure in the Kingdom of Naples. He was the oldest son of Ferdinand I of Naples, who was the King of Naples. Fernando's mother was Diana Guardato.
His title, "Montalto de Aragón," honored his grandfather, Alfonso V of Aragon, who was also a powerful king.
Fernando's Family and Marriages
Fernando was the ninth child of King Ferdinand I of Naples. He married twice during his life.
His first wife was Anna Sanseverino. They did not have any children together.
Later, he married Castellana de Cardona. With Castellana, Fernando had several children who continued his family line:
- Antonio d'Aragona y Cardona, who became the 2nd Duke of Montalto. He was born in Naples, Italy, around 1499-1506 and died there in 1543.
- Antonio had children, including:
- Pietro d'Aragona y de Cardona, who became the 3rd Duke of Montalto.
- Antonio d'Aragona y de Cardona, who became the 4th Duke of Montalto. He was born in 1543 and died in Naples in 1583.
- Antonio had a daughter named Maria d'Aragona y de Luna, who became the 5th Duchess of Montalto. She married Francesco de Moncada y de Luna.
- Antonio had children, including:
* Their son was Antonio de Aragón y Moncada (1589–1631), who became the 6th Duke of Montalto. He was also the 4th Prince of Paternò and 5th Duke of Bivona.

- Another daughter was Ana Maria d'Aragona y de Luna (died 1677). She married Francisco de Moura, a Spanish-Portuguese General and Duke of Nocera. He was also a Viceroy of Sardinia and Governor of the Habsburg Netherlands.

- Giovanna d'Aragona y Cardona (born 1502 – died 1575). She married Ascanio I Colonna, who was the Duke dei Marsi. Ascanio was the brother of the famous writer and artist Vittoria Colonna.
- Maria d'Aragona (born 1505 – died 1568). She married Alfonso d'Avalos d'Aquino, who was the Marquess del Vasto e Pescara.

Fernando de Aragón y Guardato had full siblings from his mother, Diana Guardato, and his father, King Ferdinand I of Naples.
- Maria d'Aragona y Guardato (born 1440 – died 1460/61). She married Antonio Todeschini-Piccolomini, who was the Duke of Amalfi. He was also the nephew of Pope Pius II.
- Giovanna d'Aragona y Guardato (born 1455 in Naples – died 1501 in Rome). She married Lionardo della Rovere, who was the Duke of Sora.
