The Fess Hotel was a historic building located in Madison, Wisconsin. It was added to a special list called the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. This list helps protect important buildings and places across the United States.
The Story of the Fess Hotel
The Fess Hotel building was constructed a long time ago, in the 1850s. An immigrant from England named George Fess owned it. His family kept the hotel for many years, until they sold it in 1973.
After being a hotel, the building changed its purpose. It became a restaurant from 1975 to 1994. In 1978, a group called the Madison Landmarks Commission recognized the building. They officially named it a landmark. This means it was considered an important historical place in Madison.
