The First Episcopal Methodist Church of Chester is a special old building in Chester, Montana. It stands at the corner of 2nd Street and Madison Avenue. This church was built in 1911, just one year after Chester became an official town. People in Chester really wanted a permanent church building, and this one was built to meet that need.
Even though the building belonged to the Episcopal Methodist group, other Christian groups in Chester also used it. They shared the church until they could build their own places of worship. The church has a simple, common design for buildings in rural Montana from that time. It shows how many churches were built in the early 1900s when many families were moving to and settling in Montana.
