A Look at the Church's Past
Early Days and the Churchyard
The land around the church, called the churchyard, has been there since 1687. It is a very old burial ground. More than two thousand people are buried there. Many of these graves belong to people who lived during the American Revolutionary War. One famous person buried there is Reverend James Caldwell.
A Special Bible Returns
In 2013, something exciting happened. A very old Bible, from 1699, was returned to the church. This Bible once belonged to John Ogden (colonist), who helped start the church. It was a special moment for the church members.
Joining Together
In 2019, two churches decided to become one. The First Presbyterian Church joined with the Siloam Hope Presbyterian Church. They formed a new, bigger church called the Siloam Hope First Presbyterian Church. This new church continued to meet at the original Broad Street location.
