The Flatiron Hotel is a very special building in downtown Omaha, Nebraska. You can find it at 1722 St. Mary's Avenue. It was designed by an architect named George Prinz.
This building was first built in 1912 to be an office building. But just two years later, in 1914, it was changed into a hotel. Today, the Flatiron Hotel building is used for offices and shops. It also has a fancy restaurant called Flatiron Cafe. This historic building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. This means it's an important place that is protected because of its history.
About the Building
The Flatiron Hotel building looks a lot like the famous Flatiron Building in New York City. A local banker and landowner named Augustus Kountze had this building built in 1912. He wanted it to be a place for businesses and offices.
Unique Design
The building is designed in a style called Georgian Revival. This style often uses classic shapes and details. The Flatiron Hotel is one of Omaha's most unique buildings because of its shape. It has four stories and a round tower at the very tip of its triangle shape.
The building also has cool decorative brickwork. You can see limestone trim all around the building. The outside of the building is made of brown brick.
