Learning from Great Teachers

At the Lemmens Institute, Flor Peeters learned from several important teachers. His teachers included Lodewijk Mortelmans, Jules Van Nuffel, and Oscar Depuydt. Oscar Depuydt was known for his work on Gregorian chant music. This is a special type of old church music.

Peeters studied Renaissance music. This was music from a period between the 14th and 17th centuries. He was especially interested in Flemish polyphony. This is a style where many different melodies are played or sung at the same time. He used this old style in his own music. He also explored newer music ideas from the 1900s. These included polyrhythms (different rhythms played at once) and polytonality (music in more than one key at the same time).
