Early Life
Florence Moon grew up in Birmingham. Her mother was also involved in the movement to get women the right to vote. This likely inspired Florence from a young age.
Working for Change
In 1911, Florence Moon heard a speech by Christabel Pankhurst, a famous leader for women's rights. After this, Florence became very active in the suffrage movement in Galway, Ireland.
She helped start and lead a group called the Connacht Women's Franchise League (C.W.F.L.). This group worked to get women the right to vote in the Connacht area.
In 1914, Florence and other members of the C.W.F.L. met with Stephen Gwynn. He was a M.P., which means he was a person elected to represent people in the government. They wanted him to support women teachers.
Florence was also active in the Women's National Health Association. This group worked to improve health for everyone.
When the First World War started, Florence and many other women in Galway helped with the war effort. They raised money and helped provide supplies for those in need.
Her Family
Florence Moon was married to Charles Moon. He owned a well-known clothing store in Galway. They had three children named Blanche, Elsa, and Charles. In 1918, the Moon family left Galway and moved to England.
