Florin Gardoș was born in the city of Satu Mare in Romania. He started playing football at a young age, joining youth teams like Olimpia Satu Mare and Someșul Satu Mare.
Club Career Highlights
Florin Gardoș began his professional football journey with Concordia Chiajna in 2006. In his very first season, he helped his team get promoted to the second division of Romanian football.
Playing for Steaua Bucuresti
In June 2010, Florin joined one of Romania's biggest clubs, Steaua Bucuresti. He played his first game for Steaua in August against Victoria Brănești. During his time at Steaua, he helped the team win the Liga I championship twice and the Cupa României once. In September 2011, Florin faced a tough moment when he received a ten-match ban after a serious tackle that caused another player a leg injury.
Moving to Southampton
On August 14, 2014, Florin Gardoș signed a four-year contract with the English club Southampton. This was a big move for him, joining a team in the Premier League, one of the top football leagues in the world. He made his first appearance for Southampton as a substitute in a big 4–0 win against Newcastle United. His first start came later that month in a League Cup match against Arsenal.
In July 2015, Florin suffered a knee injury during a pre-season game. This injury kept him off the field for a long time, about seven months. He finally returned to play in January 2017 in an FA Cup match.
Returning to Romania with Universitatea Craiova
In February 2018, Florin Gardoș returned to Romania and joined Universitatea Craiova on loan. He made his debut in March. After his contract with Southampton ended, he decided to stay with Universitatea Craiova and signed a new two-year deal. With Universitatea Craiova, he won the Cupa României in the 2017–18 season.
He later played for Politehnica Iași on loan and then for Academica Clinceni.
