Founder's Hall, also called Haskell Hall, is a historic school building. It stands on the campus of Atlantic Union College in Lancaster, Massachusetts, United States. This building was constructed in 1883. It is special because it is the oldest school building ever built for a Seventh-day Adventist school. Founder's Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. This means it is a very important historical site.

About Founder's Hall

Founder's Hall is located in the middle of the Atlantic Union College campus. You can find it on the west side of Main Street in South Lancaster. It is a wooden building with two and a half stories. The roof slopes down on all sides, which is called a hip roof.

Building Design and Features

The building has a part that sticks out with a pointed roof, known as a gable. On top of this gable is a square tower. The top part of the tower is open. It has pretty arched openings supported by square posts.

A porch with a slanted roof stretches across the front of the building. This porch has fancy decorations from the Victorian era. The outside of the building has not changed much over time. Only small exit doors and a metal fire escape staircase have been added.

History of the Building

The school was first known as South Lancaster Academy. It was started in 1883 by Stephen N. Haskell. He was an important leader in the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church.

The building was designed by architects named Barker & Nourse from Worcester. It is the oldest SDA school building still standing today. Many people helped build it for free. They used wood that was cut from nearby forests.

Over the years, Founder's Hall has been used for many different things. It has housed the music department and the religion center. It also held a collection of items related to the SDA church. The school's name changed a few times. First, it became Lancaster Junior College, then Atlantic Union College. Today, Founder's Hall is where the college's main offices are located.
