Four Kingdoms of Andalusia facts for kids
The Four Kingdoms of Andalusia was a special name for four important kingdoms in southern Spain. These kingdoms were part of the Crown of Castile, which was a powerful country at the time. They were located south of the Sierra Morena mountains.
These four kingdoms became part of Castile during a long period called the Reconquista. This was when Christian kingdoms in Spain took back land from Muslim rule. The kingdoms were added to Castile one by one:
- The Kingdom of Córdoba was conquered in 1236.
- The Kingdom of Jaén was taken in 1246.
- The Kingdom of Seville joined Castile in 1248.
- Finally, the Kingdom of Granada was conquered in 1492.
The name "Four Kingdoms of Andalusia" was used in many official papers and books starting in the mid-1700s. It helped people refer to this specific group of territories.
